We go looking for a gap. That is the reason this is a chase rather than a viewing trip — if the sky above Kiruna is closed in, your guide will head for wherever the forecast suggests it is clearer. Some nights that is a few kilometres, some nights over 200. And some nights the clearest sky is right above our own kennel, and you spend the evening there with the dogs.

We travel by minivan to wherever conditions look best on the night — some nights a few kilometres, some nights over 200 — in cold conditions, returning around midnight. It is a long evening and not one we would recommend for younger children.

As many as your trip allows. One evening is one chance at a natural phenomenon, and cloud is common enough that a single night is a real gamble. Two or three evenings gives the sky more opportunities to cooperate.

It also costs less each time: booked as three evenings the price works out at 1,598 SEK per evening against 2,295 SEK for a single night.

We depart around 19:00 and are usually out for four to five hours, so most evenings you are back in Kiruna around midnight. If conditions are good a long way from town it can be later, and if the sky closes in completely we may return earlier.

If you have an early start the next morning, it is worth telling us when you book so we can talk through the timing.

No - we bring one, and we are happy to photograph the group. If you have your own camera or just a phone, your guide will help you set it up for night photography, which makes a real difference to what you go home with. A tripod is worth bringing if you travel with one.

Warm base layers and sturdy footwear. We provide the specialist outer clothing for Arctic conditions. It is a long evening standing around in the cold rather than moving, so err on the warm side - and if you take medication or need to eat at particular times, mention it when you book.

Adult 16+ · Junior 10–15. Minimum age 10. We go wherever the sky is clearest — some nights a few kilometres, some nights over 200. It can be a long evening in the cold, so this tour is not suitable for children under 10.

No - both run after dark, and Aurora Zen picks up around 18:00 while Arctic Aurora Hunter departs at 19:00. We would schedule them across two evenings of your stay, which also gives you two separate chances of clear sky. Email us at info@snowdog.se and we will put it together for you.

Cancel more than 7 days before your tour and we refund you in full, less an administration charge of 3.5% (minimum 100 SEK). Between 72 hours and 7 days the fee is 50%, and inside 72 hours it is 100%. If the SMHI forecast for Kiruna falls below −30 °C on the day of your tour you may cancel whatever the notice period, and we will reschedule or refund you in full.

We run through a wide range of Arctic weather - it is part of the experience, and we provide the clothing to keep you warm. Our kennel sits in a valley outside Kiruna and is often several degrees colder than the town forecast suggests, which is exactly why we provide serious Arctic outer clothing rather than expecting you to bring your own.

Come dressed as warmly as you can and we will add to it - warm base layers, thick socks and sturdy footwear from you, and the outer layers from us.

Distance, route and timings can vary with snow, weather and trail conditions. We have not yet had to cancel a tour because of weather.

Kiruna winters can be properly cold, and our valley is usually a few degrees colder still - the clothing we provide is made for it.

We have run tours below −35 °C and have never yet cancelled one because of cold.

If the SMHI forecast for Kiruna falls below −30 °C on the day of your tour you are welcome to cancel - just email us at info@snowdog.se - and we will reschedule or refund you in full. That is your choice rather than ours: most guests come anyway, and with the right clothing it is a good deal more comfortable than the number sounds.
