✔ Husky Dog Sledding
Approx. 3 hours on the trail behind a team of Alaskan Huskies, through snowy forest and open Arctic country. Around 10–14 km. Warm Arctic clothing, a full briefing and time with the dogs before you set off.
Partway through we gather around the open fire for a hot drink and something sweet - a proper Swedish fika.

A quieter Arctic morning on foot. Snowshoe through snow-laden forest at an easy pace, then out onto a frozen lake to drill a hole and try traditional ice fishing.
Small groups of up to eight, mornings only. Back at Snowdog there is time with the huskies and a fika beside the fire.
Whether the fish cooperate is entirely up to them.

Planning your days - One day or two?
Arctic Wilderness runs in the morning.
One day
Pair it with an afternoon sled tour - Polar Twilight if you would like to drive, or Sunset Zen if you would rather be driven - and the whole package fits comfortably into a single day, with an hour between the two.
Two days
Prefer a morning sled tour, Polar Sunrise or Sunrise Zen? Then we spread the package across two days of your stay. Tell us what suits and we will arrange it.

Yes, if you take an afternoon sled tour. Arctic Wilderness runs in the morning, finishing around 13:00, and the afternoon sled tours start at 14:00 - so Arctic Wilderness followed by Polar Twilight or Sunset Zen fits comfortably into a single day.
If you would rather do a morning sled tour, Polar Sunrise or Sunrise Zen, we spread the package across two days of your stay. Just tell us which you would prefer when you book.

On Self-Drive Husky you drive your own team. Two guests share a sled and swap between driving and riding, so you both get a turn at the back. It is the more active choice and costs 3,795 SEK per adult.
On Guided Husky a Snowdog musher drives and you ride, up to four guests per sled. There is nothing to learn and nothing to steer, and it costs 3,495 SEK per adult. Choose it if you are travelling with younger children, or if you would simply rather watch the trail than concentrate on it.

Not a limit, but there are two things that help us plan your day, and which one applies depends on the tour you have chosen.
On our guide-driven tours - Sunrise Zen, Sunset Zen and Aurora Zen - a Snowdog musher drives and you ride. Please tell us if anyone in your party is over around 100 kg, so we can allocate the right sled and the right team.
On our self-drive tours — Polar Sunrise and Polar Twilight — two guests share a sled, so it is the combined weight of the pair that matters. If the two of you come to more than about 180 kg (397 lb) together, please get in touch before you book.
Either way, just let us know when you book and we will take care of the rest. It is routine, and it is far easier to arrange in advance than on the morning.

None for either experience. The snowshoeing is at an easy pace over gentle terrain, and we show you everything on the ice. If you have chosen Self-Drive Husky we give you a full driving briefing before you set off; if you have chosen Guided Husky there is nothing to learn at all.

Both experiences in full, warm Arctic outer clothing and safety equipment, snowshoes and ice-fishing equipment, your guides and husky team, pickup and transfers from Kiruna, and a hot drink and Swedish fika in our fire hut on both days. Wear warm base layers and sturdy footwear - we provide the specialist outer clothing.

Arctic Wilderness picks up at approximately 09:00. Morning sled tours pick up at approximately 10:00 and afternoon sled tours at approximately 14:00. Times may vary slightly depending on conditions. We collect you from your accommodation in Kiruna and return you there afterwards - please let us know where you are staying when you book.

Honestly, sometimes. Ice fishing is unpredictable and that is part of it - we will show you how to read the ice, drill the hole and set the line, and whether the fish cooperate is entirely up to them. Plenty of guests catch nothing and still call it their favourite morning.

Packages run on our package cancellation scale: no cancellation fee more than 60 days before your first experience, other than the card fee charged when you booked, rising to 100% inside 14 days. If the SMHI forecast for Kiruna falls below −30 °C on the day of your tour you may cancel whatever the notice period, and we will reschedule or refund you in full.

We run through a wide range of Arctic weather - it is part of the experience, and we provide the clothing to keep you warm. Our kennel sits in a valley outside Kiruna and is often several degrees colder than the town forecast suggests, which is exactly why we provide serious Arctic outer clothing rather than expecting you to bring your own.
Come dressed as warmly as you can and we will add to it - warm base layers, thick socks and sturdy footwear from you, and the outer layers from us.
Distance, route and timings can vary with snow, weather and trail conditions. We have not yet had to cancel a tour because of weather.

Kiruna winters can be properly cold, and our valley is usually a few degrees colder still - the clothing we provide is made for it.
We have run tours below −35 °C and have never yet cancelled one because of cold.
If the SMHI forecast for Kiruna falls below −30 °C on the day of your tour you are welcome to cancel - just email us at info@snowdog.se - and we will reschedule or refund you in full. That is your choice rather than ours: most guests come anyway, and with the right clothing it is a good deal more comfortable than the number sounds.
